The non-alcoholic (NA) wine industry is exploding, but if we’re being honest, the experience can be a bit of a gamble. One bottle might surprise you with its complexity, while the next feels like expensive, watered-down grape juice. If you’ve ever walked away from an NA bottle thinking, “I wanted to like this, but I just don’t,” you aren't alone.

Uncorked Expectations is here to change that narrative. Join us for a relaxed, conversational tasting at The Sobr Market in Burlington, where we strip away the marketing fluff and look at what’s actually in the bottle.

What to Expect at Uncorked Expectations

Hosted by Amol at The Sobr Market, this event isn't a stiff lecture or a high-pressure sales pitch. It’s an exploration designed to help you understand NA wine on its own terms, rather than constantly comparing it to traditional vintages.

Whether you’re fully sober, sober-curious, or just looking for a high-quality alternative for your next dinner party, you’ll leave with a sharper palate and the confidence to choose bottles you’ll actually enjoy.

The Science Behind the Sip

Removing alcohol is a chemical challenge. Alcohol provides the "legs," the body, and much of the heat we associate with wine. During the tasting, we’ll dive into:

  • How NA wine is actually made: From vacuum distillation to spinning cone columns.

  • The "Sweetness" Mystery: Why some NA wines taste sweet even when no sugar is added.

  • The Structural Gap: What is missing when the alcohol is gone, and what—if anything—can replace it?

Finding Your Perfect Pour: Whites vs. Reds

Have you noticed that non-alcoholic white wines often feel more "convincing" than their red counterparts? There’s a scientific reason for that. We’ll explore why certain grapes and styles naturally perform better without alcohol and help you identify which flavor profiles align with your personal taste.

Drinking for a Cause: Supporting Woodview Centre

We believe that great community events should give back. A portion of the sales from this event will be donated directly to the Woodview Centre for Autism and Mental Health.

Woodview has been a cornerstone of the Burlington community for decades, providing inclusive, person-centered mental health and autism services for children, youth, and adults. By joining us for this tasting, you’re not just refining your palate—you’re supporting essential local programs that inspire hope and strengthen lives.
