Burlington’s waterfront is getting a fresh soundtrack this summer. Following the conclusion of the storied Sound of Music Festival after a 40-year run, the city has officially announced its successor: the Lakeshore Music & Arts Festival.
Operated by MRG Live, this new two-day event aims to honor the spirit of its predecessor while building a more sustainable future for live music in Spencer Smith Park.
Key Festival Details
When: June 20 – 21, 2026 (Father’s Day Weekend)
Where: Spencer Smith Park and Brant Street, Burlington, ON
Cost: Free admission (with optional paid VIP packages)
Format: A condensed, high-energy two-day schedule (replacing the previous four-day format)
What to Expect: Three Stages of Talent
The festival is designed to be a "vibrant, multi-stage" celebration of Canadian culture. The layout includes:
The Main Stage (Spencer Smith Park): Featuring a diverse mix of established Canadian artists and "notable Canadian headliners" to close out each night.
The Community Stage: A dedicated space for families and youth, featuring dance, storytelling, and music.
The Brant Street Stage: A hub for local Burlington musicians, emerging performers, and Indigenous artists.
Why the Change?
While the Sound of Music Festival was a beloved staple, it faced mounting financial hurdles and a heavy reliance on government subsidies. In October, Burlington City Council redirected its $150,000 base funding to this new model managed by MRG Live.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward noted that the community’s priority was a festival that continues to champion homegrown talent—the same kind of support that helped launch world-renowned bands like Walk Off The Earth and Finger Eleven.
"The event is envisioned as a vibrant, multi-stage festival that brings together nationally recognized Canadian artists... while generating meaningful cultural and economic benefits for Burlington." — Festival Brief
The VIP Experience
While the core of the festival remains free to ensure accessibility, organizers are introducing a VIP option. This paid tier will offer fans premium perks such as:
Prime viewing areas for the main stage.
Exclusive lounges and beverage selections.
Potential artist meet-and-greets and special merchandise.
The full lineup of performers is expected to be released in the coming months. Stay tuned to see which Canadian icons will be the first to grace the Lakeshore stage!
