Lane closures are scheduled on the Niagara-bound Burlington Skyway bridgeover multiple weekends this summer.
Get ready for summer traffic delays: lane closures are scheduled on the Niagara-bound Burlington Skyway bridgeover multiple weekends this summer to allow for critical improvement work.
The closures, announced by transportation officials, will affect two Niagara-bound lanes on the QEW and are weather-dependent—meaning dates may shift if conditions aren’t favourable. Drivers heading toward Niagara Falls, Hamilton, or beyond should expect significant slowdowns and plan alternate routes if possible.
Scheduled Closure Dates
Two Niagara-bound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday on the following weekends:
July 11 – 14
July 25 – 28
August 15 – 18
August 22 – 25
Delays are expected throughout the QEW corridor in Burlington and surrounding areas during these timeframes. Local access ramps may also be affected, so travelers are advised to monitor detours and posted signage.
Stay Updated
Since closures are weather-dependent, drivers should check for updates before traveling. Follow @511Ontario on X (formerly Twitter) for the latest information on traffic conditions and construction impacts.
Tips for Travelers
Avoid peak times or travel early in the morning or later in the evening.
Use alternate routes such as the Red Hill Valley Parkway or Highway 403 when possible.
Plan ahead if you’re heading to weekend events or tourist destinations in Niagara.
The improvement work is part of the province’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing critical infrastructure. While the delays may be frustrating, the goal is a safer, more durable bridge for years to come.
We’ll keep you updated if the schedule changes. In the meantime, pack your patience if you’re heading westbound this summer.
